Timber logs for Puri Car festival arrive

Puri, Jan 25 (UNI) The timber logs of various species, specifically required for the construction of three gigantic chariots for the annual Puri Car festival, arrived here.

The temple priests after examination of the timber logs by the traditional temple carpenters had consecrated them. The logs for three chariots were brought separately on three vehicles. Soon after the consecration ceremony the logs were kept in the Rathconstruction yard.

The construction of the chariots would commence on the ''Akshyaya tritiya'' day. Hundreds of carpenters, blacksmiths and painters would complete the three chariots before the Car festival on July 16 next.

Earlier, the Feudal kings of Nayagarh and Duspulla used to provide the required timber from their forests. But these days the Forest department had been supplying the required 862 numbers of Asana, Dhaura and Phasi logs from Nayagarh and Duspulla forests.
