3 Bawaria gang members killed in encounter

Kanpur, Jan 25: In a major breakthrough, the city police have gunned down three members of a Bawaria gang.

Eight policemen were also injured in the shoot-out, police said.

Working on a tip-off, a joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel from Collectorganj and Naubasta police stations carried out a raid in Hanspuram area at around 0330 hrs.

In a resultant shoot-out between the police and gangsters, three criminals - Rakesh Mishra, Thakur Gujjar and an unidentified accomplice were killed. Seven other gangsters managed to escape SP (Crime) Sripat Mishra said.

Eight police personnel were injured, out of which two were rushed to a hospital.

Thakur Gujjar's brother Atru was killed in a similar encounter by the Kanpur police last year.

While Mishra was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000, Gujjar had a Rs 5000 bounty on his head.
