'Surya Jayanthi' held at Lord Venkateswara temple

Tirumala, Jan 25: 'Surya Jayanthi', also known as 'Rathasapthami', was held at Lord Venkateswara temple here today.

As part of the rituals which symbolise the Charioteer Anurudu (Sun) taming the seven horses, the deity Malayappaswamy Varu was taken out in a procession on the 'Surya Prabha Vahanam'.

Chinna Sesha Vahanam, the Utsav deity, was taken out in a procession between 0900 hrs and 1000 hrs through the four mada streets of the temple.

'Rathasapthami' was also held at the Padmavathi Ammmavaru temple at Tiruchanoor, Govindarajaswamy temple at Tirupati, Venkateswara temple at Srinivasa Mangapuram and Kalyana Venkateswara temple at Narayanavanam.

In view of the 'Rathasapthami', the TTD had cancelled 'Arjitha Sevas' (paid sevas) at the Balaji temple.
