Sri Lankan teachers undergoing special training in Chennai

Puducherry, Jan 25 (UNI) For the first time, 20 teachers from the central province of Sri Lanka was obtaining special training in a Chennai Institute.

The teachers, two PG and 18 general teachers, who are here to visit some of the educational institutions told newspersons that the central province in Sri Lanka was experiencing shortage of Mathematics and Science teachers.

They said, since the general teachers were not capable enough to take the classes, they visited the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research at Taramani in Chennai.The special training was arranged through the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, they added.

The training which commenced on January 14, will be for one month,they said and were all praise for the Dy High Commissioner Rajan Pillai for arranging this programme.

The teachers, who visited the Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Ashram International School here, also had an interaction with the academicians.

During the course of interaction V Muthu, Chairman of the Pavender Educational institution announced that he is prepared to provide free education in his colleges comprising, Engineering, Polytechnic, Arts and Science to nine Sri Lankan students every year.

Dr Muthu, however, put forth a condition that the students should be selected by the teachers, who are attending the training programme.
