Alert security to counter possible naxalite strike

Ranchi, Jan 25: Security was stepped up to counter possible naxalite strike ahead of tomorrow's Republic Day celebrations in Jharkhand.

According to the State Home department here, different layers of security were deployed in and around the historic Morhabadi ground here, the official venue of the celebration where Governor Syed Sibtey Razi is scheduled to unfurl the tri-colour.

Sensitive installations like the Uranium Corporation of India at Jadugoda, National Metal and Metallurgy Laboratory at Jamshedpur besides naxalite dominated areas, were kept under strong vigil, the sources said.

Security was kept on alert to safeguard railway tracks, which often became the target of underground elements.

Sixteen of the state's total 22 districts are naxalite dominated.
