Tiruchirapalli, Jan 25 (UNI) The Tamizhaga Vivasayeegal Sangam today urged the Central Government to impress upon the Andhra Pradesh Government to drop its plan to construct a dam across Palar river, as it would affect farmers in Tamil Nadu.

In a statement here, Sangam's state president S A Chinnasamy appealed to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to pressurize the Centre to take up the issue with Andhra to drop its plan.

He urged the State Forest Department to dispense with the norms on farmers' share for putting up 'Solar fence' to protect agricultural produce from wild animals and birds.

Stating that the Forest Department was collecting 25 per cent of the estimate for putting up the Solar Fence around the fields to prevent animals, he said the department should withdraw its order as it would lead to increase in cultivation cost.

The ripened crops were prone to damage by wild animals and birds such as elephants, monkeys and peacocks in several districts, including Coimbatore, Perambalur and Tiruchirapalli.

Welcoming the Tamil Nadu Government's directive to sugar mills to provide lorry freight to the cane growers, he demanded an upward revision of the procurement price of milk in view of the increase in fodder price.
