Rs 2.25 cr worth heroin seized

Pune, Jan 25 (UNI) The Excise Department here has seized heroin worth Rs 2.25 crore being transported through couriers over the past few days.

Acting on a tip off, the department personnel conducted a raid on January 17 and seized some packets of heroin weighing 1350 gms and worth Rs 1.5 crore, Excise Commissioner Sunil Kumar Sahani told mediapersons here today.

The heroin was concealed in a few general knowledge books which were being sent to Texas, US.

''Earlier, during raids, a few CDs containing 'charas' had been seized. So far, Rs 2.25 crore worth of narcotics have been seized. As per the information given by the courier centres and the addresses on the seized material, we are investigating at Pune, Delhi and Mumbai,'' Mr Sahani said.
