Miscreants Rob Rs 16 lakh, DM suspect Maoists

Midnapore, Jan 25 (UNI) Suspected Maoists today robbed Rs 16 lakh from an LIC office in Jhargram sub-division of this district.

Police said three bike-borne armed miscreants entered the manager's chamber and robbed the entire collection from the locker by threatening him.

They also attacked a few employees and customers who tried to protest, police said.

''We tried to chase the miscreants but failed as they disappeared into the Khusmani forest in Binpur area,'' a senior police officer said.

Midnapore District Magistrate Bhabani Prasad Barat, who ordered an inquiry into the matter, said it might be the handiwork of supected Maoists active in the area.
