Lord Balaji gets fake notes, lottery tickets, land deeds!

Tirupati, Jan 25: Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala is getting adifferent kind of donation in the 'hundi' (collection box) these days -fake currency notes, lottery tickets and land registration deeds!Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) have brought to the notice of theReserve Bank of India that fake notes worth Rs 50 lakh in variousdenominations had been recovered from the Sri Vari 'Hundi'.

Also found were lottery tickets before draw dates and documents for land registered in the name of the Lord.

The amount of fake notes had risen to Rs 50,000 per day from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 in the past, officials said.

The authorities were taking steps to monitor and verify thedocuments and lottery tickets. During one such exercise, two demanddrafts totalling 1,116 dollar were found in the hundi collection.
