Karnataka govt committed to waiving off farmer's loan

Bangalore, Jan 25 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today said JD(S)-BJP coalition government in the State was firm on waiving off farmer's loan.

Talking to newsmen here after Governor's address to the joint house earlier in the day, Mr Yeadiyurappa said the modalities were being worked out to waive off the loan taken by farmers from Cooperative sector.

He said the government was capable and would definitely mobilise the resources for this purpose.

Referring to allegations by the Opposition Congress to the effect that there was no specific assurance in the Governor's address about waiving off the loans, he said that ''they (Opposition) will know when the next budget is presented.'' Mr Kumaraswamy, referring to the charges by Opposition that the Governor's address lacked government's firm stand on banning sale of liquor and waiving off the farmers loan, said 'wait and see'.
