HC dashes Kathunangal's poll prospects

Chandigarh, Jan 25 (UNI) The prospects of Punjab Congress MLA Savinder Singh Kathunangal representing Majitha constituency, to enter the poll arena even as an independent, were dashed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court which did not grant a stay today on his conviction in a forgery-related case.

Though the Congress has already fielded its candidate from Majitha as Mr Kathunangal was barred from entering the fray because of his conviction by a lower court, he was seeking a stay from the high court.

However, Justice Tej Pratap Singh Mann, adjourned the case to February 1. Today was the last day for filing nomination papers for the February 13 Assembly polls in Punjab.
