EC notice to Sukhbir Singh Badal for violating model code of conduct

New Delhi, Jan 25 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today issued showcause notice to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal for violating the model code of conduct.

It said Mr Badal breached the security and violated the model code of conduct by not taking permission to use a helicopter at an election rally in Gidderbaha.

He has been asked to reply by January 27.

Yesterday, the EC had asked Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal and SAD president Prakash Singh Badal to explain the use of a large number of vehicles while filing his nomination papers, which is a violation of the code.

The developments come less than three weeks before assembly elections in Punjab.
