Mumbai, Jan 25 (UNI) Cummins India has recorded net sales of Rs 477 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2006, a 22 per cent increase over the corresponding period's sale of Rs 389.8 crore the previous year.

Net profit before tax in the third quarter rose 29 per cent to Rs 89.9 crore (Rs 69.6 crore during the same period last year), a company press release said here today.

Based on the current performance of the company, the Board of Directors has recommended an interim dividend of 100 per cent (Rs 2 per equity share), the release said.

Company chairman and managing director Anant Talaulicar said in the release, ''We were successful in sustaining our strong growth performance through this quarter across the power generation, industrial and automotive segments. Moreover, our focus on partnering with suppliers on value engineering and waste elimination helped us offset inflation in commodities. We also expanded our Six Sigma activities, which has yielded substantial benefits in improving efficiencies.'' Talking about future plans, he said capacity expansions at the Kothrud facility in Pune for high horsepower engines and new Pirangut facility for low horsepower generator drives and generator sets are progressing on schedule.

''We are investing significant resources to upgrade our ERP systems to the latest version of Oracle to support our profitable growth plans and enhance our information management capabilities,'' he added.
