CLRI to host leather research industry meet

Chennai, Jan 25 (UNI) In a bid to bring all stakeholders of the leather sector to a common platform, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) will be hosting a annual Leather Research Industry Get-Together (LERIG) in its premises here from January 27 to 29.

Talking to newspersons here today, CLRI Director A B Mandal said 'LERIG 2007' would draw attention of technocrats to the recent developments in leather technology with emphasis to achieve maximum production with minimum chemical input and thereby less pollution load in their respective areas." The three-day programme will highlight a theme lecture on 'liquid waste management' to illustrate the technologies available for the treatment of wastewater.

Apart from this, a technical session will also be conducted on 'reach management in leather industries,' which include saline water management, solid waste management covering solid waste bio-methanisation, secure land-fill technology for solid waste and by-product recovery from tannery solid waste.

A panel discussion on technology for reject management, zero liquid discharge, technology for solid waste, funding for modernisation, sustainable level planning between leather production and pollution control will also be organised, he said adding LERIG demonstration of reverse osmosis and membrane bio-reactor for the treatment of wastewater was arranged through the equipment manufacturing company.
