Central zone wins third time to top league

Mysore, Jan 25 (UNI) Central Zone won their third successive match defeating South Zone by nine wickets to lead the round robin league table in the All India Inter Zonal Women one-day tournament here today.

Sulakshana Nayak (55) and Jaya Sharma (74 no) powered Central to easily make 171 in reply to South Zone's total of 169. South's skipper Mamatha Mebin made an unbeaten 50.

In another match West Zone beat North by 13 runs. Opting to bat first West made 183 in 49 overs with Sunitha Paranjape making 64.

Poonam chipped in with 38. Later they dismissed North zone for 170 for eight with off spinner Sema Pujari claiming four for 25.

Brief Scores: South Zone 169/5 (Karuna Jain 33, Mamtha Mebin 49 no) lost to Central 171/1 (Sulakshana Nayak 55, Jaya Sharma 74 no) West Zone 183 (Poonam Rao 38, Sunitha Paranjape 64) beat North zone 170/8 (Anjum Chopra 57, Sema Poojary 4/25).
