Sr Cong leader Bhimashankar Khambekar dead at 84
Shirdi, Jan 24 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Dalit Mitra winner Bhimashankar Khambekar died of old age at Shirdi Sai Baba hospital late last night.
He was 84 and is survived by a son and three daughters.
He was renowned for social work and his contribution in development of the area. He was the also the founder of various educational and social institutes, water projects and also hospitals in the area.
Mr Khambekar was the Executive member of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee and held several other posts in the party.
He was close to former Chief Ministers of Maharashtra - Mr Y B Chauvan and Mr S B Chauvan.
He was famous for his emancipation for Dalits and once he gave up his seat of Serapanch to a Dalit.
He was also the trustee of Shirdi Sai Sansthan and presently his son is a trustee in it.
