Ration coupon scheme for poor from January 26 : Nitish

Samastipur, Jan 24 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that the state government would launch ration coupon scheme for the poor from January 26.

Inaugurating a function organised here to mark the birth anniversary of former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, Mr Kumar said the ration coupon scheme was evolved with a view to check the irregularities in providing grains to the poor through the public distribution system.

''Reports of irregularities continue to pour in from several districts in the list prepared for the people living below poverty line (BPL),'' he said, adding a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the whole episode by an independent agency.

Referring to the recently held 'Global meet' in Patna, Mr Kumar said the NDA government was committed to accelerating the pace of growth with the help of all concerned to bring prosperity in the state.

''Transparency and corruption free administration are the basic requirements to make the attempts for achieving the cherished goal of a developed state,''he added.
