Overburdened dump caused mine mishap: Minister

Panaji, Jan 24 (UNI) The collapse of an overburdened dump had caused the mine mishap at Tollem in South Goa recently in which six workers were killed, Minister for Mines Digambar Kamat told the State Legislative Assembly today.

Replying to a starred question tabled by Vassudev M Gaonkar during Question Hour, the Minister said the Government had instituted a magisterial inquiry into the tragedy. The Directorate of Mines Safety is also probing into the mishap.

The government has pursuaded the mining company to compensate families of the victims under the Workmen's Compensation Act, he added.
