NE gets its first BMCS in Tripura

Agartala, Jan 24 (UNI) Tripura got its first Bulk Milk Cooling Station (BMCS), the first in the entire North Eastern region, at Melaghar under Sonamura sub-division in West district.

The station was inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday.

The Rs 14 lakh station, which can store about two lakh litre of milk everyday, was set up with joint efforts of the Tripura Cooperative Milk Producers Union (TCMPU) and state government's Animal Resource Development department.

The TCMPU had contributed Rs eight lakh and the Animal Resource department had given Rs six lakhs for establishing the infrastructure for the BMCS, official sources here today said.

While talking to the reporters on the ocassion, Mr Sarkar had stressed the need for such station in other areas of the state where milk is being produced in huge quantity.

He also urged the people to prepare such plans to develop fish cultivation, forestry and cottage industries in the state.
