LT secures Rs 355cr orders for Delhi Metro

New Delhi, Jan 24: Larsen&Toubro Ltd today bagged threeorders worth Rs 355 crore from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) forthe second phase of the Delhi Metro project.

''It is a matter of great pride that L&T was associated withDMRC in the successful completion of many of its projects in Phase-I.The recent contracts under Phase-II are an affirmation of our goodstanding with DMRC,'' Member of the Board and Head (Construction) K VRangaswami said.

Two of the orders are direct contracts pertaining to constructionof underground stations at Udyog Bhavan and Green Park. In addition tothese stations, tunnels of nearly one km will be built by the companyusing cut-and-cover technology.

These orders will be executed by the company's construction division, ECC.

L&T will execute the third order with DYWIDAG, Samsung,Shimizu and IRCON, under a joint venture agreement. Valued at Rs 490crore, the order involves construction of two underground stations atHauz Khas and Malviya Nagar. The total length of this tunnel will be3.10 km and construction will be done by tunnel boring machines.

The company's portion of this order is Rs 127 crore.

All the three contracts will be executed in 38 months.

The company executed an underground Mandi House Station, YamunaBridge, elevated rail corridor of 1.65 km between Yamuna Bridge andTis-Hazari, six underground stations and twin tunnel system, major andminor bridges in Shahdara-Tis Hazari section under Phase-I of the DelhiMetro.

The total value of the orders executed by the company in Phase-I was around Rs 700 crore.

DMRC has taken up implementation of Phase-II with 2010 as completion target in time for the Commonwealth Games to be held here.
