Letter from VS recommending Bali ''not correct'': Karunakaran

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 24 (UNI) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader K Karunakaran today said Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan's letter to the President recommending the elevation of former Chief Justice V K Bali as Supreme Court Judge was not correct.

Stating that the intention was not good, the veteran leader told the reporters here ''he had never done such an act during his ten-year-long Chief Ministership or when he was Home Minister of the state for five years.'' As Chief Minister Mr Achuthanandan was a ''total failure'', he alleged.

Mr Karunakaran said he did not feel that everything in the judiciary was functioning properly, but taking out marches to the court was not good.

Alleging that the state administration has come to a standstill, Mr Karunakaran said the Chief Minister and his cabinet collegeus were having different views.

Pointing out that the financial condition of the state was in a crisis, he demanded the government should come up with a ''white paper'' in this regard.
