HC issues notices to SEC in contempt case
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Jan 24 (UNI) Aurangabad division bench of the Bombay High Court today issued notices to the State Election Commissioner Nand Lal, Deputy Election Commissioner Mangesh Mohite and Aurangabad Collector on a contempt petition filed by a zilla parishad member here.
The single-member bench of Justice P V Kakade issued notices to the three in a contempt petition filed by Aurangabad ZP member Prashand Bamb.
The High Court, in the notices which are returnable on February eight, has asked the respondents why action should not be taken against them for not obeying the directives issued by it on October 3, 2006, as had been pointed out by the petitioner.
According to the petition, the High Court had directed that ''reservation by rotation'' policy be adopted for the zilla parishad elections. However, the State Election Commission has not followed the directives and announced the zilla parishad elections for February 14.
