Eight LTTE supporters arrested

Chennai, Jan 24 (UNI) The state 'Q'-Branch police today arrested eight persons, including five Sri Lankans, suspected to be LTTE supporters, for allegedly attempting to smuggle two tonne of automatic ball bearings near Central Railway station here today.

Police said acting on a tip off they rounded up all the eight persons from Tiruchirapally. They were caught at the lorry booking office where the consignment of bearings were loaded into a lorry.

The entire consignment brought from Mumbai by train and road, was stocked at the lorry booking office and they were planning to transfer it to the Tuticorin coast and from there to Sri Lanka, the police added.

The police seized the lorry with the ball bearings, which was used for manufacturing explosives and investigation was on.
