413 aspirants file papers for Punjab polls today

Chandigarh, Jan 23 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann, Congress Ministers Raghunath Sahay Puri, Sardul Singh, Mohinder Singh Kaypee and Jagjit Singh Chaudhary, were among 413 candidates who filed their nomination papers for the February 13 assembly polls today.

Among SAD (B) heavyweights Ranjit Singh Brahmapura, Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Suchcha Singh Langha, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Adesh Pratap Singh and Kuldeep Singh Badala, Jathedar Tota Singh and Hari Singh Zira deposited their papers today.

Today's 413 nominations have taken the total number of candidates to 899 in the poll fray. Tomorrow is the last day for filing the candidatures.

Today was the fourth day for filing of nominations for the elections to the 117-member Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

The scrutiny will be held on January 27. The last date of withdrawal of candidatures is January 29. Polling will be held on February 13 from 0800 hours to 1700 hours.

The counting of votes for both Assembly and Amritsar Lok Sabha polls would take place on February 27. The election process will be completed before March two.
