Guwahati, Jan 22 (UNI) The banned ULFA, which was responsible for recent series of massacre and explosions in the state, has threatened to kill the ruling Congress party members to protest the intensified Army operations in the state, sources said here today.

The militant group called up local newspapers in the state threatening to kill colleagues of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi if the state government didn't restrain the army operations.

Panic gripped the Congress workers in Asom's Tinsukia district, where the ULFA had issued a diktat, asking Congress workers to resign from the party, sources said.

The militant group had shot dead two Congress Pachayat leaders at Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

Several Congress workers of Tinsukia district had already sent their resignation letters, fearing ULFA backlash, though Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhubaneswar Kalita denied receiving any resignation letters.

Suspected militants even tried to hurl a grenade inside the residence of Doom Dooma Congress legislator Durga Bhumij on Sunday evening, sources said.

The Chief Minister, who heads the counter-insurgency unified command structure in the state, claimed that the army operations had started delivering results as ULFA militants were forced to desert many of their camps inside jungles in Upper Asom.
