ULFA strikes again: Two blasts kill one, injure seven

Guwahati, Jan 23 (UNI) One person was killed and seven injured when ULFA struck again today triggering two blasts, one in the capital and and the other in Bongaigaon town of lower Asom.

Official sources said the first blast occurred in Adabari area of Guwahati at around 1830 hours, where one person was killed and five others were critically injured.

The second bomb went off at Bongaigaon. The details of the casualties are not known. However, initial reports said three persons were critically injured in the blast.

The bombing took place when members of the Union Home Ministry were reviewing the law and order situation in view of the National Games beginning on February nine.

Asom Olympic Association(AOA) general secretary Mukut Medhi said Guwahati was not ready for the Games in the absence of proper infrastructure.

Two ULFA militants were, meanwhile, arrested from Balipara Tinali under Kalaigaon police station of Asom.

Police said seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), several detonators and other explosives were recovered from them.

The explosives were suspected to have been brought to be planted in civilian localities of the area, which had not been targetted by the ULFA.

Two more ULFA militants were also held from Umtngam village in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya bordering Karbi Anglong district of Asom earlier in the day.
