UK company approves Orchid API facility

Chennai, Jan 23: Chennai-based global pharma major, Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd today announced that its Betalactam Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) facility in Aurangabad has been approved by the UK regulator, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Company Managing Director K Raghavendra Rao, in a release here today said MHRA approval was an important step in the overall regulatory road map for marketing of Orchid's key betalactam product such as Piperacillin and Tazobactam in the lucrative European markets.

Orchid would be formulating Piperacillin and Tazobactam in its state-of-the-art plant at Irungattukottai, Chennai, which was also under the inspection processes, he said adding this product was part of the distribution arrangements with two reputed generic partners for the regulated markets in US and Europe.
