Teenager dies after police beating, tension in MP
Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, Jan 23 (UNI) Tension prevailed in this city following the death of a teenager, who fell from a two-wheeler when he was allegedly attacked by policemen chasing him on their jeep last night.
Members of the minority community observed a bandh to protest against the incident and put up road blockade.
Meanwhile, a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident and two police constables suspended in this connection.
According to family members of the deceased, Abid (17) and Tohid (15) were overspeeding and blowing horn. A police chased them and attacked them with sticks on the move.
Abid, who was driving the two-wheeler, lost control of the vehicle and it skidded of the road. While Abid died on the spot Tohid, who was riding pillion was injured.
Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Dinesh Kaushal said the scooter had fallen into a pit resulting in Abid's death.
After preliminary investigations, Superintendent of Police R K Marathe suspended police constables Ramavtar Dubey and Chandrashekhar Choubey.
Soon after the blockade at the highway ended, Abid's family members staged a 'dharna' at the bus stand demanding registeration of FIR against the guilty policemen.
As a precautionary measure, heavy police force had been deployed in the area.
