Teenager dies after police beating

Seoni, MP, Jan 23 (UNI) Tension prevailed following the death of a teenager, who fell from a two-wheeler when he was beaten by policemen in a mobile jeep, last night and a bandh was called by members of a particular community to protest against the incident.

Meanwhile, a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident and two police constables suspended in this connection.

According to family members of the deceased, Abid (17) and Tohit (15) were blowing pressure horns while returning last night when some policemen chased them and beat them with sticks from behind causing them to fall.

Abid died on the spot, while Tohit was injured. Tohit alleged that Abid died because he fell after police beating.

Sub-Divisional Officer of Police said Dinesh Kaushal said the scooter had fallen into a pit resulting in Abid's death.

Several members of a particular community blocked the highway and called a bandh in the wake of the incident.

After preliminary investigation, Superintendent of Police R K Marathe suspended police constables Ramavtar Dubey and Chandrashekhar Choubey.

Soon after the blockade at the highway ended, Abid's family members staged a 'dharna' at the bus stand demanding registering of FIR against the responsible policemen.

As a precautionary measure, heavy police force had been deployed in the area.
