New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed the conviction of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu in a road rage case, paving the way for his entry to the election fray for the by-election to the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat.

A Bench comprising Justice G P Mathur and Justice R V Raveendran directed that the order of conviction passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court would not be operative till the final disposal of Sidhu's appeal against the sentence of three-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh for the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
