Bangalore, Jan 23 (UNI) Former Bangalore City Police Commissioner Dr H T Sangliana, MP, today squarely blamed the police for failing to prevent the recent violent incidents that rocked the city, which claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy.

In a release here, he said Sunday's violence could have been avoided had the police taken precautionary measures. The city police have miserably failed in their duty in assessing the communal situation and taking precautionary measures to protect the life and property of the public.

Demanding that the State Government call for an explanation from the police top brass for the lapse, the former supercop urged the Government to compensate the victims of the mindless violence.

Mr Sangliana said Sunday's large scale violence was in retaliation to the arson and stone throwing incidents on Friday by miscreants who were coming to attend a rally to condemn the execution of deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussain.

He accused certain political leaders of organising questionable public meetings and rallies only to reap political mileage.
