SAD candidate served notice for violating code of conduct
Moga, Jan 23 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has served a show cause notice to the SAD-BJP alliance candidate from the Moga Assembly constitunecy, Jathedar Tota Singh for using a public road to hold an election meeting yesterday.
The returning officer for the Moga Vidhan Sabha constituency Iqbal Singh when today said that he was informed of the violation of code of conduct by the candidate as he had held an election meeting on Pratap Singh road after inaugurating his election office.
Mr Singh said the senior SAD leader and sitting MLA had caused inconvenience to the general public for about 45 minutes and had also used loud speakers without his prior permission, which was a clear case of violation of code of conduct.
The returning officer has asked the SAD leader to file his reply at the earliest, otherwise the matter would be referred to the Election Commission. An Executive Magistrate had verified the facts after visiting the rally venue, he said.
The SAD leader is yet to file his reply.
