PIL against organising Surya Namaskar in schools in MP

Jabalpur, Jan 23 (UNI) A petition has been filed in the Madhya Pradesh High Court objecting organising of 'Surya Namaskar' in all government schools in the state on January 25.

In their petition, Jamait-e-Hind and other Muslim organisations had challenged the state government's order to all the schools to organise mass 'Surya Namaskar' and 'pranayama'.

The petitioner told the court that the state government did not take into account the feelings of students of minority communities while issuing the order.

Pointing out that chanting of some 'mantras' during Surya Namaskar hurt the feelings of students other than Hindu community, the petition stated that the government's order was against the provisions of the Constitution.

The petition requested the High Court to direct the state government to cancel the order directing all the students to take part in the Surya Namaskar programme and providing Muslims freedom to or not to take part in it.
