Notices to Centre, Punjab governments over vehicle testing centres
Chandigarh, Jan 23 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices for April 24 to the Union Ministry of Surface Transport and Highways, Punjab Transport Secretary, State Transport Commissioner on a PIL which has sought directions to set up vehicle testing centres.
Counsel for the petitioner Kirpal Singh Sandhu, president of All India Transport Mini Truck Union, Ludhiana that the Punjab government had not so far set up testing centres for the registration of vehicles as required under section 56 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The testing centres are meant to facilitate the formalities connected with the registration of transport vehicles. This was only helping in breeding of corruption, it was argued.
