Chandigarh, Jan 23 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice to Chandigarh Administration returnable by Feburary 6 on a writ petition filed by a city resident seeking directions for issuance of death certificate of her kin who died in the Malta Boat Tragedy.

A Division Bench of Justices Jagdish Singh Khehar and S D Anand was hearing the plea filed by one Baljit Kaur, who said she was not being issued the certificate on the ground that a High Court order had directed authorities to issue such certificates to the affected families of Punjab and but had not mentioned Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, the High Court has adjourned the hearing of the case for tommorow in which proceedings under Contempt of Court Act have been sought against the Punjab government officers who had failed to pay provisional compensation of Rs 50,000 each to the affected families by five years ago in which over 200 people went missing.

All the victims were intending to migrate abroad but were duped by unscrupulous travel agents.
