National Wheelchair Olympics in Bangalore from Jan 31

Bangalore, Jan 23 (UNI) Over 800 athletes from all over the country will vie for top honours in the National Wheelchair Olympics, to be held here from January 31 to February five.

The event was hosted by the Rotary Club of Bangalore in association with SCOPE, an NGO working for the recognition and support of Wheelchair Athletes.

Former National Champion in Wheelchair Athletics and SCOPE President Malathi Holla told reporters here today that ''the athletes are thrilled at the opportunity. The event will certainly be a soul elevating opportunity for all the competitors.'' Rotary Club President K Gopinath Rao Gorpade said that during the meet, a blood donation camp, first aid camp and sports medicine consultation camp would be held in collaboration with HOSMAT Hospital. To help the participants, a wheelchair repair and service centre was also being contemplated.

The games include a variety of track and field events, coupled with indoor and outdoor team events like Basketball and Table Tennis.
