Rally to protest missionaries eviction

Patthalgaon, Chhattisgarh, Jan 23: Christians took out rallies and staged demonstrations in protest against eviction of missionaries in this district, under Section 170(b) of the Land Revenue Code.

Rallies were taken out yesterday at Jashpur, Kunkuri and Bagicha block headquarters under the Janjagran Manch's banner and memorandum -- addressed to the Governor -- submitted to revenue officials.

Local missionaries are demanding immediate cessation of action whereby land was being returned to tribals.

''Thirty-five cases were registered against Christian missions in different tehsils after it came to light that tribal land was usurped. After inspection of documents and hearing both sides, plots are being returned to the rightful owners,'' District Collector Durgesh Mishra told sources.
