'Liberalisation has led to emergence of 1st gen entrepreneurs'

Mumbai, Jan 23 (UNI) The liberalisation of the Indian economy has led to the emergence of many successful first generation entrepreneurs, according to Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal.

He was speaking at the ''National SME Excellence Award'' function, organised by the Corporation Bank here yesterday.

The Indian economy is on a high growth trajectory, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have a pivotal role to play in contributing to its growth. The Government is committed to extend its full support for the accelerated growth of the SME sector, he said.

Complimenting the initiative of the Corporation Bank to recognize excellence among SMEs, he said this will have a favourable effect among the entrepreneurs.

Future Group managing director Kishore Biyani, who was the Guest of Honour on the occasion, also complimented the Corporation Bank.

He said that an entrepreneur should always take risks and challenges and visualize his moves ahead of others.

Earlier, Corporation Bank chairman and managing director B Sambamurthy welcomed the gathering. While outlining the background of the initiative taken by the Bank, he exhorted the SMEs to ''think big and compete globally''.
