Kidney racket: One more hospital comes under scanner in TN
Madurai, Jan 23 (UNI) With the investigations in the kidney racket in Tamil Nadu continuing, investigators have found a private hospital here to have performed as many as 80 renal transplantations.
According to police sources, the hospital located in K K Nagar was investigated for involvement in the racket.
A special team which scrutinised the records found the hospital had peformed 80 renal transplantation procedures.
Investigations into the kidney racket have revealed that four leading private hospitals in the district had accounted for more than 370 renal surgeries last year, including transplants.
According to police sources, the probe had gained momentum and many people, including doctors from these hospitals, were being grilled.
Of the four hospitals under the police scanner, two are leading corporate hospitals in south Tamil Nadu.
The city police has sought details of renal surgeries performed at these hospitals in the last one year. They have been asked to submit all details, including personal history of the patients and involvement of brokers for the surgeries performed.
City Police Commissioner M Chidambarasamy has formed two special squads to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, sleuths from the CB-CID, Chennai, are expected to arrive here this week in connection with the investigation launched into the racket.
