Infringment on BMC's authority will not be tolerated: Shiv Sena

Mumbai, Jan 23 (UNI) Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray today said that infringment on the authority of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by the Maharashtra Government will not be tolerated.

Speaking to reporters after releasing the joint manifesto of the Shiv Sena-BJP for the high profile civic polls in Mumbai, Mr Thackeray said even though BMC is supposed to look after the affairs of the city, the issue is who is actually responsible for the city.

''On many occasions, the civic body is not taken into confidence.

Agencies like the Airport Authority of India (AAI) does not even take into account the state government,'' he added.

He said the Congress-led State Government has deliberately tried to amend laws and destroy the autonomy of the BMC. ''It began implementing infrastructure services through the MMRDA. Such attempts will not be tolerated further,'' he added.

Former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena spokesman Manohar Joshi said the party would strive to give more powers to the Mayor.
