HC successful in reducing pendancy of cases : Justice Bali

Kochi, Jan 23 (UNI) Hailing Kerala High Court as the best in the country, HC Chief Justice V K Bali today said the Court was successful in reducing the pendency of cases to a large extent in one year.

Addressing a gathering at a full court reference to honour him on his retirement today, Justice Bali said the High Court was able to dispose of 88,639 main cases thereby reducing the pendancy to 1,17,549 from 1,33,376 even after 72,812 main case were filed in the year.

He said with the unceasing, dedicated and collective eforts of the Bench and the Bar, the judge disposal in the year was 4,500 cases which was more or less double of the average disposal per judge on all-India basis.

Justice Bali said top priority was given to disposal of cases involving senior citizens and relating to family disputes, atrocities agaisnt women and children.

He also appreciated the judges of the sub-ordinate courts for there relentless effort to dispense justice even while working in extreme difficulty.

'' Though various measures were taken to uplift their service conditions, lot of things need to be done to improve the infrastructure of the sub-ordinate courts,'' he noted.

Juctice K S Radhakrishnan in his address said Juctice Bali has brought the Bench and the Bar more closer and intimate and inculcated a feeling that they were part of the same family striving to achieve the same goal.

He said Justice Bali, stimulated by honest zeal to work, took steps to reduce the pendency of cases through judicial processes as well as through other alternative dispute redressal mechanisms.

Advocate General C P Sudhakara Prasad, Kerala High Court Bar Assocaition President M P Krishnan Nair, HC Judges and former judges and were present on the occasion.
