Engti elected KAAC chief
Diphu, Jan 23 (UNI) Congress party member Mangalsing Engti was elected Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council(KAAC) today.
He defeated George Milik, also of the Congress, by a margin of seven votes. Mr Engti polled 16 votes of the total 25 votes cast.
Meanwhile, Mr Milik has been suspended from the party for six years as a disciplinary action for contesting against the officially nominated candidate.
The Congress retained power in the KAAC polls, held on January 6, by winning 15 of the 26 seats. Election to one of the seat was countermanded due to death of a candidate.
