DYFI to obstruct rail traffic

Palakkad, Jan 23 (UNI) Volunteers of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Kerala will obstruct movement of trains in the state on February 12 protesting against the formation of a new railway division at Salem, allegedly affecting the sectors of Palakkad Division, the State Unit President M V Rajesh annonced today.

Talking to reporters here, he said both the state and the national leaders would urge Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to retain the Palakkad Division in its present status.

With the formation of the new Salem Division the state's representation would be reduced to 15 per cent, affecting the allotment of new trains and other developments, he alleged.

Eventhough the state had two Union Ministers they were not doing anything against the move, he alleged.

However, Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu, who is from Tamil Nadu, was doing everything for his state, he added.
