Committee on National Security meets
New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) The newly constituted high-level Committee on National Security and Central Police Personnel Welfare today held its first meeting to discuss the names of the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The hour-long meeting, chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, was attended by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan, Cabinet Secretary B K Chaturvedi, Home Secretary V K Duggal and the Director Intelligence Bureau.
The meeting reportedly discussed on preparing a panel of senior police officials for filling the post of the Director General CRPF.
Mr J K Dutt, who is the Director General National Security Guard, is is at present also holding the post of DG, CRPF.
The Committee was constituted by the Home Ministry on January 2 this year in pursuance of the Supreme Court directions on police reforms. It is meant to institutionalise a machinery for preparing the Selection panels for appointment of Chiefs of the Central Paramilitary forces.
The committee would also review the issues relating to the service conditions of personnels of the Central Para-military forces and their welfare. The Committee has to meet quarterly or whenever necessary to deliberate on these issues.
