CM says 300 plots being developed for Bhakra Dam oustees

Shimla, Jan 23 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said 300 new plots are being developed in two new sectors of Bilaspur town to rehabilitate the Bhakra Dam oustees.

Addressing a public meeting at Panjgain in Bilaspur Sadar assembly segment on the first day of his two-day winter sojourn to the district, he said efforts were on to rehabilitate the remaining oustees in the new sectors being developed near the district headquarters.

Mr Singh said the process of transferring land was nearing completion and would be followed by the development of plots at the state government's expense.

The winter sojourn to lower areas of the state had provided an opportunity to interact with the people of the lower areas, he said, reiterating his government's resolve for uniform development of the state.

The Himachal Government had waived off the loan and interest on the loan amount of the oustees in view of their poor economic conditions, he added.

Lauding the people of the area for giving up their ancestral land, property and houses for the construction of the project, Mr Singh said these people have to be compensated adequately.

The chief minister said his government had spent a sum of Rs 39 crore on constructing 147 km of new roads and mettling 202 km road length in Bilaspur district of the state alone.

All the Gram panchayats in the district have been connected with motorable the roads and additional roads were being constructed to increase road network in the state, he added.

Earlier, he inaugurated 33 KV sub station at Beri and Panjgain Primary Health Centre, constructed at a cost of Rs 24 lakh, and laid a foundation stone of the Science Block in Panjgain Government Senior Secondary School.

Mr Singh also announced the upgradation of Panjgain PHC to Community Health Centre, Government High Schools at Bandla, Howahan, Kooh, Majhwar to Government Senior Secondary Schools, besides Sangal Jarera Government Primary School to Middle.

State Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur was also present on the occasion.
