Ashwin Naik aide killed in police encounter

Mumbai, Jan 23 (UNI) An aide to notorious gangster Ashiwin Naik was killed in police encounter near Grant Hyatt Hotel, Vile Parle in western suburbs, police said.

Acting on a tip-off that Bala Banraj Mane (28) of Ashwin Naik gang would be coming near Grand Hyatt Hotel in western suburbs to commit robbery, the Vile Parle police, yesterday laid a trap, sources here today said.

At around 2345 hrs, when Mane came to the spot, the police identified and asked him to surrender. Instead, Mane fired two rounds from a revolver at the police team.

Mane suffereed chest and head injuries in retaliatory firing.

He was then rushed to the civic-run V N Desai hospital where doctors declared him dead on admission.

He was wanted in several cases of robbery, dacoity and extortion in the juridication of the metropolis, police added.
