AIADMK will not rest till Karunanidhi steps down: Jaya
Chennai, Jan 23 (UNI) The opposition AIADMK will not rest until Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin stepped down, owning moral responsibility for the violence in the October last civic elections in the state, party supremo J Jayalalithaa said today.
In a statement here, she said after Madras High Court, in a split verdict, ordered repoll in 99 wards in Chennai Corporation and indicted the DMK government, the Chief Minister and Local Administration Minister had no moral right to continue in office.
She also demanded the removal of state Director General of Police (DGP), City Police Commissioner, Joint Commissioner of Police and State Election Commissioner, who were indicted by the High Court for failing to ensure peaceful poll in October last.
As there was no guarantee for fair election as long as these officials were holding office, the AIADMK had declared that it would boycott elections conducted under their purview, she said, adding, only if they quit office, would democracy come to life in the state.
Charging the AIADMK with violating law and order to suit its interest and those of its allies, she said the common people were put to innumerable hardship and it was time, the DMK government was dismissed and President rule imposed in the state.
