AIADMK, MDMK stage walkout

Chennai, Jan 23 (UNI) The main opposition AIADMK and the MDMK today staged a walkout in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on the issue of violence during Chennai Corporation elections and boycotted the proceedings for the third consecutive day.

As soon as the House met at 0930 hrs, the AIADMK members were on their feet and raised the issue of Madras High Court's split verdict on the reported violence during the corporation polls.

Speaker R Avudaiyappan said the members could not raise any issue during question hour and urged them to resume their seats.

However, the AIADMK members continued to remain on their feet and raised slogans, demanding resignation of the DMK Government in the wake of High Court's split verdict.

After some time, they staged a walkout in the House. Members of the MDMK, an ally of the AIADMK, also followed suit.

Both the AIADMK and the MDMK boycotted the Governor's address on January 20 on the same issue. While they participated in the question hour and boycotted the rest of the proceedings yesterday, they chose to boycott the entire proceedings today.
