UPA has failed to check terrorism: Rajnath Singh
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 22: BJP president Rajnath Singh today alleged that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had failed to check terrorism in the country.
''India is unsafe during the UPA regime, as terrorism was spreading throughout the country,'' he told mediapersons here, adding that whereas in the past, terrorist activities were confined only to Jammu and Kashmir and North-Eastern States, but after the UPA government came to power, the menace had started to spread to the southern parts of the country.
''The UPA government is sleeping over the great danger,'' he said and claimed Pakistan's ISI was backing terrorist activities in India.
On the price hike of essential commodities, he said after the UPA government came to power, prices had increased by 35 to 55 per cent. Inflation also touched 6.5 per cent, he added.
Mr Singh claimed that the six-year term of the BJP-led National Democratic Front (NDA) government had succeeded in checking price hike.
Criticising the Finance Ministry's direction to banks to earmark 50 per cent of all loans to religious minorities, particularly Muslims, he said it was nothing but ''vote bank politics.'' The BJP leader also alleged that the UPA government was communalising all sectors, including military and education.
On the Lavalin case, he reiterated the BJP's demand for a CBI probe into the issue to bring out the truth.
