New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted further one month to the state officials to file their responses on a PIL seeking action against police officials involved in fake encounters under the garb of eliminating insurgents in Asom.
The PIL demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
A bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and Dalveer Bhandari granted the time to the respondents after a request to this effect by counsel for the state.
The petitioner Aalok, an NGO, in its petition has alleged that the killing of innocent people by the police in fake encounters was causing widespread resentment among the people in the state and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident of fake encounters stage-managed by the local police.
